O'Hare International Airport
Face paler than it's ever beenI disappear through security
To wait for the flight I'd been anticipating for months
It wasn't supposed to be like this
I was to be seen off at the gate
Not sit idly staring at fellow passengers
But eight days earlier changed everything
The airports had just opened
My flight was to go on as scheduled
My first flight ever
Detroit, then Paris
Follow teacher's directions to Lisieux
My first flight
My first apartment
I remember looking at the wall
At the front of the plane
Eight hours, then seven
Until we arrived
My stomach twisting as the minutes dwindled
It was the start of a voyage
All my own
