Movies watched:
The Card Counter
Jaws
Running Scared
Parasite
Rankings:
1) Parasite
I think for pure, moment-to-moment entertainment the choice is Parasite. There's so much that happens in almost every scene. It's funny, suspenseful and has sharp commentary on the difference between classes. There are some moments that just shocked me (like when the former housekeeper starts pounding frantically in the middle of the night or the birthday party rampage).
2) Jaws
Parasite over Jaws? Again, Parasite was just more consistently entertaining, although everything in the last half-hour on the boat was pretty gripping.
3) The Card Counter
At the time, I kind of regretted watching this movie. It's bleak and repetitive, but there's an amazing performance by Oscar Isaac at the center.
4) Running Scared
I watched the wrong movie! I was looking for Midnight Run but chose this instead. It's not a bad movie, but ultimately was the weakest of the month. Hines and Crystal were good together, but it's kind of a shaggy movie.
2023 season ends with the same record as '22- 84-78.
