'23 Mariners vs KC Royals

Royals are 38-32 and in 3rd place. They did sweep a four game series earlier in the season.

Transaction before the series:

Andrew Vaughn placed on IL (foot contusion). Mariners decide to recall Evan White this time instead of Dylan Moore. Kyle Lewis returns to the starting lineup in RF. Alberto Rodriguez will play left, with Haniger at DH.

The Bad: Castillo doesn't make it out of 4th in game one.

'23 Mariners- vs Oakland at TMP 6.16.22-6.18.22

Result:

Sweep! 3 game sweep.

The Good: Andrew Vaughn is raking. Hit his first Mariners homer in game one. J-Rod hits #19. Bullpen again fantastic in game one. The Mariners climb back to .500 with a win in game two. Kopech with good appearance. Cal Raleigh 2 HR in game three. Juan Then solid.


The Bad:

Hancock has second straight subpar outing. Jesse Winker has been getting more time lately but is cold.


Other Notes:

Marco Gonzales recalled before game one. Robbie Ray will be out another 6-7 weeks.

Andrew Vaughn goes to IL with foot contusion.

Result: WWL 


The Good: Kopech actually has scoreless outing in game one. Wait, we'll get back to him later. Haniger gets HR #20 in game two. Strong outing by Castillo and bullpen in game two.


The Bad: A disastrous sixth inning prevents a sweep. Kopech gives up 5 runs, and Hill gives up another 2.


Record: 35-37


Position- Division: 3rd, 8 GB


Position- WC: 3.5 games back

Mariners '23 Update- post As series 6.8.23-6.11.23

Result:

LWLWL

The Good: 13-6 explosion in game 2, including Ty France going 3-4 with 2 HR. Home run race is getting interesting between Haniger, Rodriguez, and Suarez.


The Bad: New acquisition Michael Kopech gets roughed up in both his outings. Whitlock has bad outing, and Munoz keeps getting hit hard. Offense musters only one run in game 3. Flexen has not-so great outing in game 4 win. Hancock has rare bad outing in Game 5.

Record: 33-36

Position: 8.5 back of Oakland, 4.5 back in WC.

Overall feeling: Frustration. Mariners can't seem to get a consistent good spell going.

Next: Three against the White Sox.

The Good:

Shutout in G1: Castillo goes only 4+ (high pitch count), but BP shuts 'em down.

Emerson Hancock continues to shine.

Comeback win in G3.

Bullpen also great in G4.

The Bad:

Blowout in G2. Gilbert has subpar game again, and Munoz, Sewald, and Hill get lit up.

Another blowout in G3

Starting pitching getting shaky again while bats are quiet.

Robbie Ray with another tough outing.

Kirby also gets roughed up.

Bullpen again terrific for 6 innings in relief (G2)

Offense EXPLODES in G4 (14-3 win)

Suarez 3 HR in game 4


Bad:

Sewald hit hard again (G1)

Then roughed up for the first time (G2)

Other Notes:

Look at team leaders in ERA:


Funny to think what the season might look like if the pitching wasn't last in nearly every category.

Team struggles continue at 1B with Ty France playing 2B.

Other Notes:

G1- Evan Marshall makes first appearance

Result: 2-1 series win!

The Good:

Young and Hancock combine for 3+ good innings in G1

Haniger and Conforto get it going in G2, plus Suarez has 3H

Kirby has decent start (not quite 5 IP though)

An honest-to-goodness shutout in game three! Then and Hill shut 'em down.

Suarez seems to be getting hot, as is Conforto

The Bad:

Offense (minus Crawford and Haniger) couldn't get it going in G1

Murfee gets shellacked in G2.

Other Notes:

Evan Marshall signs contract, Murfee sent to Tacoma

Mariners'23 Update- The Losing Streak Ends!


The eight game losing streak is over, as the M's beat Baltimore. Nice to see a series win over the O's.

The pitching staff was the main culprit over that stretch, and three of the starting pitchers are on the "who's not" list shown here.

Result: Angels win 2 out of 3

Record: 7-6


The Good:

Castillo a dominant game one

Munoz 3rd save in game one

Ty France heats up, 2 HR in game one

Haniger 4 game HR streak

Julio continues torrid start



The Bad:

Kyle Lewis struggling as well as JP Crawford

Logan Gilbert has another rough outing

Offense struggles as a whole in G3

Ray 3R in 5.1 IP in G3.

Suarez .050 last 6 games.


Notes:

Lineup change:

France moved up to 2nd, Julio 3rd. Crawford down to 6th.

Solano given game 3 off, Crawford returns to #2 spot.

Up Next: Homestand begins against Boston.

Result: Earned a split in series with two straight wins

Suarez stays hot, hits 3rd HR

Haniger and Murphy have 4 HR

Julio hits 2 HR in game 3 win

Munoz gets 1st save in game 3.

Haniger grand slam in G4


Lowlights:

Logan Gilbert roughed up G1

Danny Young torched in G1

Robbie Ray tough outing in G2

Kirby is the 3rd starter to struggle in the series

Leadoff hitter Solano 1-13 through 3 games


Notes:

Opener (McGowin) used for Flexen again, and this time Flexen throws 6 innings. 

Three players (Raleigh, France, and Crawford) get on the board with their first home run of the season.


Trends:

Solano hitting well in leadoff slot

Crawford struggling at #2

Lewis at just .182, but small sample size.

Awards! Solano awarded player of week!
